LET 'S TALK ABOUT TACTICS!

Deep analysis

The 4-4-2 Tactical System in Football: When playing balance and effectiveness in attack

Above all, football is a game of strategy, where each tactic and formation influences the final result. Among the various tactical options, the 4-4-2 system has been a mainstay in the world of football for decades. In this edition of "Let's Talk Tactics", we will explore in detail how this formation works, its advantages, disadvantages and examples of teams that have been able to take advantage of it!  Let's get to the note!

How does the 4-4-2 tactical system work?

The 4-4-2 is a tactical scheme that distributes four defenders, four midfielders and two forwards. Let's see the roles and how each of these players perform on the field:

 Defenders:

The four defenders are organised in a line of four: two full-backs and two centre-backs.

The centre-backs must be giants, the classic enormous ones who are respected in the small area and are in charge of marking the rival forwards. Their aerial game is very important to defend centres and corner kicks.

The full-backs should move a lot and support both the defence and the attack. They mark opposing wingers and provide depth on the wings in each attack of our team.

Midfielders:

They are also divided into two groups: two central midfielders and two on the wing.

Central midfielders are versatile. They must recover the ball, distribute it with precision and support both attack and defence. They are the most important players in this tactic.

Wide midfielders are more offensive. They overwhelm the wings, centre the area and also defend the rival full-backs. As Dr. Bilardo said: "I attack I defend, I defend I attack"

Fronts:

The 4-4-2 has a centre forward and a second forward.

The centre forward is the scorer. He must be strong, precise in the air and lethal in front of goal. He has to be very effective (this is crucial).

The second striker (midfielder) is creative. He moves behind the centre-forward, creates opportunities and also looks to score. He is more of a forward than an attacking midfielder so he has to have good offensive characteristics.

Advantages of the 4-4-2 tactical system:

Balance:

The 4-4-2 offers a balanced distribution in all areas of the field. Both in defence and attack, the players have clear roles.

Pressure in the midfield:

Midfielders can close spaces and make it difficult for the other team to build their play, forcing rivals to not feel like they have an advantage over us anywhere on the field.

Attack options:

With two forwards, the team has more chances to score goals. (Something obvious, right?) In any case, although obvious, the fact of having to defend against two attackers still worries the opponent. To take it into account.

Disadvantages of the 4-4-2 tactical system:

Exposure on the wings:

If the full-backs do not defend well, they can be exposed. When attacking, they leave free spaces behind them, an advantage that our rival's good wingers will undoubtedly be able to exploit to the detriment of our expectations.

Need versatile midfielders:

Midfielders must be good in both aspects of the game.

Dependency on forwards:

If forwards are not fit, offensive production can suffer.

Examples of successful teams with 4-4-2:

Manchester United (1999): Under Sir Alex Ferguson, Man United won the Champions League with this formation.

Arsenal (2004): Arsène Wenger's “Invincibles” also used the 4-4-2 in their historic unbeaten season in the Premier League.

In conclusion, the 4-4-2 tactical system is a versatile tool that requires coordination and adaptability. When executed correctly, it can be a powerful force on the playing field.

NEW ACHIEVEMENTS (PART 4)

Hello, this is Matushevsky!

In the fourth part of our series, we move on to the analysis of tasks in the CITY category. Will the analysis also bring us a surprise in the form of PROFIT this week? Let's find out:

Achievements in the CITY category:

1/ DO THE JOB “TOWEL BOY”, “JUNIOR TEAM COACH”, “TICKET SELLER”. Further prizes: 1 booster, 2 boosters and 1 gold pack. Total value of rewards: 21 credits. Remember, with this task we convert energy into Euros, which in most cases is necessary for us to play - but let's face it - the conversion rate for these three tasks is terrible - so the first warning in 4 weeks - change the work required in the task to more advantageous ones. Multiplying the profit times 30 days we get 630 credits.

2/ CLAIM YOUR FREE STARTER IN THE SHOP - 200 energy for free every day. 6,000 energy per season - this is the equivalent of 22 energetic packs, or approximately 660 credits.

3/ CLAIM THE REWARD FOR UNLOCKING ALL MEALS - generally an achievement that requires a bit of resources and time spent in the game, but it is very real - you will gain 400 energy per day, i.e. 12,000 per season. Which after conversion gives us 44 energy packages, i.e. 1,320 credits.

4/ BUY ON THE MARKET - I changed the order of the tasks, because this one requires a broader description (it has 8 levels):

🔸Level 1: buy 1 common item - cost 8 credits per day

🔸Level 2: buy 3 boosters - cost 12 credits per day

🔸Level 3: buy any 3 packs - cost 18 credits per day

🔸Level 4: buy 1 enchanted item - cost 12 credits per day

🔸Level 5: buy 3 fragments - cost 12 credits per day

🔸Level 6: buy 1 rare item - cost 16 credits per day

🔸Level 7: buy 1 drink - cost 27 credits per day

🔸Level 8: buy 1 epic item - cost 100 credits per day

The daily cost is therefore as much as 205 credits, 6,150 credits per month. We can see that this task requires significant investments, day after day. Profit? 900 energy per day, or 27,000 per month. This is about 100 energetic packs, i.e. the equivalent of 3,000 credits. Will it be worth it when summarizing other awards in this category? We'll see in a moment.

5/ COMPLETE X/4 ACHIEVEMENTS FROM THE GROUP “CITY” - the rewards are as follows: 1 booster, 2 boosters, 1 free key. Poorly. In total, you earn 21 credits per day, or 630 credits per month.

To sum up, on the profits side we have 6,240 credits, and on the expenses side, 6,150 credits. We earn 90 credits. Wow.

Seasonal Quest: COMPLETE THE ENTIRE DAILY ACHIEVEMENT “CITY SMARTIE” (ALL LEVELS) X TIMES PER SEASON. 5 levels:

🔸1250 golden balls - equivalent to 150 credits

🔸5,000 energy - equivalent to 550 credits

🔸3 premium keys - equivalent to 75 credits

🔸50% more XP for training with the bot for 96 hours - let's calculate the profit equivalent to 115 credits (XP Drink IV) times 8, that's a total of about 920 credits

🔸5 Rocket Fuel Drink V - 5 x 200 credits = 1200 credits.

Let's sum up: on the profit side we have 6,240 credits + 150 credits + 550 credits + 75 credits + 920 credits + 1,200 credits which gives us a total of 9,135 credits. On the spending side, it's still 6,150 credits. We earn almost 3,000 credits per month. Concrete profit, although it didn't seem like it.

DODO BLOG

Good afternoon dear readers of the magazine, I welcome you to the new issue. The start of the seventeenth season is in full swing, eight matches have already been played at the time of writing. In this article, we will quickly run through the events of the start of the season. Sit back and enjoy reading the article.

The start of the season, as always, begins from the off-season. This season, two clubs have changed in the super league. BAVOVNA and Hakuna Matata became new members of the super league at will, whether they got there or they just failed to avoid getting into this, we will never know. But it's worth running up to them and wishing them good luck this season, because this season will be unsuccessful for them, unless they manage to get into the European Championship and win there.

In the rest of the leagues, almost everything remains unchanged, all the same clubs are leading and dominating, while others are trying to interfere with them.

There was a week without gold cards in card duels last week, and there could be no more than five red cards in the deck. This week, the strength of many players equalised, and amateur players were able to score more points than they could have scored before. For example, with my weak deck of cards, I was able to score twenty thousand points and move to another league. Of course, I understand that this week I will lose several thousand points and go to the lower league, but this week I was able to score more victories than before, and not only I did it, but also many players, and some worse, who used the advantage on gold cards they do not have and well-pumped green cards, but this week we need to level the playing field.

At this point, our short article concluded. As always, I wish every player and club good luck this season and more successful victories for you and less disappointments, as always, your " favourite" Dodo journalist.

THE LAST WILL BE THE FIRST

In this article we will talk about the favorite teams to win league 4.

When we talk about the fourth division we often think about cramped stadiums, lack of structure, teams with few financial resources and therefore very modest squads, technically speaking. But if there is a lack of resources, there is plenty of will, there are big dreams in the minds of the athletes, who fight to survive in football.

In Football Team, the fourth divisions are as technically uneven as the other national leagues 1, 2 and 3 and the Superliga. But teams emerge, created with great expectations, some will certainly succeed and others will fail in the attempt.

But let's deal with the teams that are, at least initially, the powerful bosses in leagues 4.

Italy 4A:

With a pizza topped with olive oil in a cantina in Rome, we start in Italy, where there is a big fight for the title, which promises to be exciting until the last round, the first club to stand out is Spanish, more specifically from Catalonia, this is the Barcelona, whose president is the

player Dendoncker, who also serves as the team's coach. The highlights of the squad are defender  Alexand3r-Arnold and attacker L4to. The coolies play in a 4-4-2 formation. The second candidate for the title is Solano City, which has Rick Sanchez as president and Millosz as assistant coach. In the squad, all focus is on the attack with Emma Fernandez and on the defense with  Bartłomiej Blicharz. The team's main playing style is 3-1-4-2.

Spain 4A:

Crossing the Strait of Gibraltar, passing by the Alhambra palace, we enter Spain, where the great bogeyman of the fourth division 4A is the fierce TIgers CF who promise a savagery of goals against their opponents this season, the president The Specialist brought the good striker  Keisuke Honda and point guard MasujDzika to lead the team. A strong 4-4-2 is the coach's favorite.

Germany 4A and 4B:

After passing through the Black Forest, we evoke creatures from the Grimm brothers' tales in Germany, where the very strong Anonymous II III team must have no opponents. The group, which has three teams, is in charge of the third BestDefender squad, and in the squad is the great hope for goals  Kristoffer Orlando. The team plays in a traditional 4-4-2. In division 4B, Los Blancos of the president -AS- who plays in a 3-5-2 and Aston Villa FC of Kristoph Gavin and Klavier Gavin with their 3-1-4-2 will compete point by point for first place.

England 4A:

Listening to the beats of Big Ben, sipping a cup of tea in London, we analyze that in the 4A League, the EAGLES FC team, sovereign in the skies of the competition, the president of the Kuba 10 club, counts a lot on the experience of goalkeeper CzemiX, who is a wall in front of the goal. The team's game plan is 3-1-4-2.

We wish the teams success and that the future holds great things for everyone in the game.

See you next time guys!

LIBERATORS AND AMERICANS

Hello, how are you players?

Let's talk about the main football competition in South America, the Copa Libertadores da América, which corresponds to the UEFA Champions League for Europeans.

The initial idea about the competition emerged in 1958, at a Congress of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), in August 1959 it was decided that the official name of the competition would be Libertadores da América (a tribute to the leaders of the South American independence movement, such as Simón Bolívar (1783-1830), San Martín (1778-1850) among others). It began to be officially played in 1960, bringing together the champion clubs from each South American country.

It has had several names over time:

1960 to 1964: Champions League of America

1965 to 2016: Copa Libertadores da América

From 2017: Conmebol Libertadores

The biggest champions are:

Independiente (Argentina) 7 titles

Boca Juniors (Argentina) 6 titles

Peñarol (Uruguay) 5 titles

River Plate (Argentina) and Estudiantes (Argentina) 4 titles

The biggest scorer in the history of the competition is Alberto Pedro Spencer Herrera (Ecuador) with 54 goals and the club with the most appearances is Nacional from Uruguay with 51 and the first time that the competition brought together clubs from the same country in a final was in 2005, São Paulo ( champion) and Athlético Paranaense (runner-up)

The Copa Libertadores da América currently has 47 teams divided into three stages: Preliminary or Pre-Libertadores (three stages), Group Stage and Qualifiers (round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final).

In the 2024 edition, the single-game final will take place on November 30, in the city of Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina, in a stadium to be confirmed.

The prize for the title is just over 20 million euros.

CHANGES IN FOOTBALL RULES REGARDING HANDBALL

Playing the ball with the hand has always been a controversial and much-discussed aspect in football. Over the years, rules regarding this issue have been modified multiple times, leading to various interpretations. Most importantly, in the mid-19th century, the elimination of hand play initiated the separation of rugby from football, marking the beginning of the modern history of the game.

Until 1870, playing the ball with the hand was allowed only in certain situations. A player could catch the ball with their hands but was strictly prohibited from either running with it or throwing it forward or to a teammate. This was penalized with a free kick for the opposing team. It wasn't until 1870 that playing the ball with the hand was categorically banned.

Traditionally, playing the ball with the hand was seen as an infringement only if it was intentional. However, the definition of "intentionality" was problematic, leading to many inconsistencies in interpretation. In recent years, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) has introduced changes to the definition of playing the ball with the hand, emphasizing whether the hand has extended the player's "natural" body silhouette, regardless of intention. Despite changes, the new rules still provoke controversy. Many believe that the new definition is still not clear enough, leading to further ambiguity in interpretation.

The introduction of VAR technology aimed to assist in resolving contentious situations, including handball incidents. However, often this technology complicates rather than helps, especially when it comes to subjective interpretations of the rules. Considering the numerous controversies and problematic decisions, we can expect further modifications to the handball rules. The key will be to create a definition that is clear, consistent, and fair to all participants.

Playing the ball with the hand remains one of the most controversial aspects of football, and yet the elimination of hand play is the most distinct characteristic of this game; after all, the foot is not a part of the human body designed for precise interventions! Despite numerous modifications to the rules, the pursuit of clarity and fairness in this matter will continue.

I hope you enjoyed the above article. If you are interested in other football-related facts or refereeing, feel free to evaluate and share your thoughts in the comments.

With sporting regards,

Dawid R

EUROPA LEAGUE QUARTER-FINALS SUMMARY

Atalanta BC vs Liverpool F.C.

The favorite of this two-way match was unclear. I personally was betting on the England team. However, as early as the 36th minute, Gianluca Scamacca opened the score by beating Liverpool's goalkeeper. No more goals were scored in this half. However, just after the start of the second half, Gianluca Scamacca scored again in the 60th minute. It seemed that nothing more might happen in this match when, in the 83rd minute, Atalanta's Mario Pašalić closed the score by scoring a goal. It was clear that in the second match Liverpool would have to make up for it. Already in the 7th minute Mohamed Salah took advantage of a penalty kick. The England team tried, did what they could, but the Italians meticulously defended access to their own goal. At one point, the referee blew the whistle to declare the match over. Atalanta wins against Liverpool 3:1 in aggregate.

S.L. Benfica vs Olympique Marsylia

Let's move on to the second quarter-final! The match between these teams was in part also a big unknown. The result of the two-legged match in game 1 was opened by Rafa Silva. The Portuguese club's player beat the French team's goalkeeper in the 16th minute. We had to wait for the next goal until the 52nd minute when Benfica, or rather Ángel Di María, scored a goal on 20. In 67, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang responded by scoring a goal. No more goals were scored in this match. We moved on to the second match. No goal was scored for almost 80 minutes when Faris Moumbanga beat Benfica's goalkeeper in the 79th minute. Regular time and extra-time did not result. A one-on-one competition was needed in which the French team proved to be better (4:2). Olympique Marseille wins the double 2:2 (4:2).

A.C. Milan vs AS Roma

An Italian duel! In game 1, Milan's dominance was evident from the start. However, in spite of what we saw on the pitch, Gianluca Mancini beat the AC Milan goalkeeper in the 17th minute. The Rossoneri tried to score throughout the match. They fired as many as 25 shots, but not one found its way into the AS Roma goal. The second match was in fact a copy of the first. Despite Milan's dominance, Gianluca Mancini this time beat Maignan in the 12th minute. Just 10 minutes later, the same was repeated by Paulo Dybala. When Milan pushed on, AS Roma player Zeki Çelik flew off the pitch with a red card. Despite this, Milan's first and only goal came only in the 85th minute when Matteo Gabbia put the ball in the net. However, it was too late to make up for the loss. AS Roma won the two-match series against AC Milan with a score of 3:1 and advanced to the semi-finals.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen vs West Ham United F.C.

We move on to what is probably the most boring two-match series. How else can we describe a match in which the statistics look as follows:

Shots: 33 : 1

Shots on target: 13 : 1

Possession of the ball: 73% : 27%

Corner kicks: 10 : 1

Bayer led an absolute domination. England's West Ham players were simply helpless. Despite this, 1 goal was only scored in the 83rd minute. Jonas Hoffman scored it. Just 8 minutes later, in the 91st minute, Victor Boniface scored the final goal of the match to make it 2-0. The second match looked very different. Already in the 13th minute, Antonio scored a goal for West Ham. The match was evenly contested, but the English failed to score. In the 89th minute, Jeremie Frimpoing set the score for the match by scoring a goal for 1:1 in the match. In the end Bayer Leverkusen wins the two-match series with a score of 3:1 going through to the semi-finals.
